For the month of october we are spotlighting Singapore's Park Connector Network.
Launched in the 1990s, Singapore’s Park Connector Network (PCN) is an island-wide system of green corridors linking parks, nature reserves, waterways, and coastal areas across the city-state. Managed by the National Parks Board (NParks), PCN engages urban planners, recreational users, and conservation specialists to integrate ecological connectivity and recreation into Singapore’s highly urbanized landscape
The Park Connector Network serves as a backbone for urban ecological connectivity in Singapore, linking fragmented green spaces to maintain biodiversity, support species movement, and enhance ecosystem resilience. The network currently spans over 500 kilometers of trails and greenways, weaving through urban, residential, and natural landscapes to connect major conservation areas such as Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, and the Central Catchment Area.
Beyond biodiversity, PCN provides critical ecosystem services including air quality improvement, urban cooling, and stormwater management, while enhancing public access to nature and promoting active mobility.
Management efforts continue to focus on strengthening ecological connectivity, integrating green infrastructure into new urban developments, and expanding community stewardship and environmental awareness programs citywide.
